The History

Once, this world was paradise, with lush green fields, mighty forests, and crystal clear rivers. Here humans and animals lived in harmony, keeping many as pets and caring for those who chose to live in nature as best they could. As the human cities grew, more animals chose to live under their care or even underfoot as their massive cities became safe havens from the harshness of nature.

As the cities grew, the land began to be shaped by the human's expansion. While at first the humans tried to maintain balance, to keep nature intact as their city skylines stretched farther, as the population boomed and more space was needed, regulations became more and more lax with each passing generation.

The great green ichor the humans made as a side effect of their expansion was never meant to touch the earth, and at first, they were careful to keep it contained. But as more and more barrels filled their deep underground warehouses, the sickness began to seep out, and once it escaped, what was truly the point of trying to contain it anymore? Progress was progress, after all.

The grass shriveled, the trees turned black and spindly with soot. The few plants who managed to take hold in the dusky earth were brown and dry as the great clouds of pollution poisoned the water. When it rained, the rain smelled foul and breathing can become difficult. The few times the clouds graced the earth with water, creatures were forced to hide from the chemical laden downpour.

The humans had poisoned paradise, and the animals, who had done nothing, now shared their new wasteland.

For some time the humans built great clear structures to shelter their cities from the horrors they had created, but eventually even their technology could not keep them alive inside in their glass prisons. The doors opened, and animals were forced out, and what became of the humans next is uncertain.

Some say they died there, scrambling and fighting over the last remnants of food and potable water. Some say they changed their skin, and now walk among them in new monstrous forms, giving rise to the mutant creatures of the wasteland. And some still say the humans escaped their poisoned paradise all together and made a new home in the skies. All that is known for certain is that a human has not been seen for three generations.
