Soul Tension

The level of a creature's body and the level of their soul can often be different, especially at the time of awakening. Those who awaken with high level souls may find it difficult to control their high level powers, as just because their soul is powerful enough, does not mean their body is used to wielding such powers. When a high level soul uses a power that is higher than the level of their body, they will experience Soul Tension.

Soul Tension

Soul tension is not a harmful phenomenon, but one high level souls will need to grapple with. Soul tension describes the difficulty high level souls may find performing and maintaining high level powers when their bodies are of a low level. This can be eased with practice, as well as by leveling the body itself and bringing the body and soul into balance. While balancing the two will always be the goal, those experiencing soul tension will find the more they perform high level actions, the more control they have.

Mechanics

In game, soul tension describes a de-buff high level players will have when they use powers that are higher than the level of their body. The level of the body is determined by how many Level Up Prompts the players have completed. All players begin at Level 1 for their body, while their soul level is determined by their stats. When using powers that are the same level as your body, you will always succeed in controlling the magic, even if you don't always succeed in what you are trying to do.

Example: a level one blue soul uses a level one power to splash a player with a small amount of water. Because their body and soul are the same, they will always succeed in making and controlling that water, but that doesn't mean they will hit their target for certain! The roll is to hit, not to control their magic.

When a player uses a high level soul power when their body is a low level, they will experience a tension roll. This is a debuff which means the higher the disparity between your body level and the soul power you are using, the less likely you are to use the magic successfully. The more times you do this, however, the smaller the debuff will become.

Example: A level 4 red soul has completed no level up prompts. This means their body is still level 1. If this player uses a level 4 power for the first time, they have roughly a 50/50 chance of using this magic correctly. However the second time they use a level 4 power, it will be closer to 55/45, with a slightly higher chance of success due to practice.

The best way to succeed at using high level magic is through Soul Balancing.

Soul Balancing

Soul Balancing describes the process of bringing the level of the body and the level of the soul into balance. This is done by completing the level up prompts in game to balance your soul. Once the level of the body and the level of the soul are the same, a soul is considered balanced, and will therefore level together once more prompts are completed.

Example: a green soul awakens at level 3. Like all players, their body starts at level 1. In this state, their soul is not balanced. The player then completes 2 level up prompts, bringing their body level to 3. As the soul level and the body level are now the same, their soul is in balance. If they complete the level four level up prompt, both their body and soul will be level 4 together.

Due to the nature of soul balancing, those who awaken at level 1 are born and behind the game in balance, meaning their body and soul will always level together.
